Run Applet in a modern browser Tag(s): Environment
Most modern web browsers -- including current versions of Chrome, Firefox, and IE Edge -- no longer support Java applets.
Chrome

For Chrome, the CheerpJ Applet Runner extension can run legacy Java Applets on modern browsers without a Java plugin or a Java installation.
Just install and pin the extension. Next, visit your Applet-based website, click the extension icon in the upper-right corner of your browser, and then press the 'Enable' button in the popup. Once enabled, the extension is activated for the current domain, and Applets will start automatically if they are present.
Once installed in Chrome, try it here with this Treeview Applet.
Note that Applets with advanced features may not work with this extension.
IE/Edge
Latest Internet Explorer supports Applets but first, you will need to install a Java JRE version 8.It is possible to launch an Applet in Edge by opening the page in IE mode.
